An Italian "university" devoted to ice cream has seen a 90-per-cent increase in students as executives laid off in the recession look for to formulate new careers.
More than 6,000 people attended the courses obtainable by the Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna in 2008, other than the number of students -- counting many from outside Italy -- enrolling in the courses almost doubled last year.
Students also are taught how to make ice cream from red wine, olive oil, Parmesan cheese and basil.
