Hudsonville Ice Cream might have been around for 84 years in Michigan, where it's now established as the largest maker of branded ice cream in the state.
But the Holland, Mich based company is coming to Chicago for the first time later this month. Ten flavors of Hudsonville's ice cream will debut in 184 Jewel Food stores in Chicago starting March 22. And although the company likes to talk about its old-fashioned way of making ice cream, it is using some rather innovative social media and experiential marketing techniques to get out the word about the brand's arrival in the Windy City. Hudsonville is using Facebook to round up 50 "Cool Ambassadors" in Chicago. They will be given everything needed to throw an in-home ice cream social for their nearest and dearest friends.
